Band Section Leadership Report

1. Have you served in this position before? If you have, what went right, what went wrong? If you haven’t, did you interview? Why or why not? If you weren’t selected, why do you think that was? I have previously served as a section leader for two years, and would say the trumpet section has made good progress over this school year. With the little number of trumpet members in the band, the section has done a lot to step up to the occasion and play the part that may have called for double our numbers. Overall, all the members of the section have improved musically and dedicated their time to give aid to the band, rather than hurt it. The section worked cohesively when it came to helping out one another and giving advice to those that needed …show more content…
My ambitious character pushes myself to grow musically, which I want my section members to see in hopes that my attitude will have an effect on them. I am a fast learner, and approach difficult situations calmly in order to figure out solutions quickly and effectively. Being a section leader for about two years now, I have experience in assisting those struggling in both marching and music, which in turn has helped me learn different ways of solving different problems. I can handle multiple issues at once, and when it comes to a challenge, I do not back away. Instead, I take it as an opportunity to better myself as a leader to overcome an obstacle that holds my section back from succeeding, whether it is a person or overall group. The section’s success is a huge responsibility I take very seriously, and do my best to have each one of the members grow to their fullest …show more content…
From someone not under the responsibility of a leadership role, it may seem like a wonderful job, since they can escape from the usual workload that a non-leader has to put up with, and have authority over others. Yet, they tend to overlook the amount of dedication and self-evaluation that a leader has to go through in order for their group to succeed. One must better and uphold themselves to a high standard in order to be an efficient leader, and not for power alone. They must have a wide knowledge of their position and patience to help others in case an issue or situation arises. When things go wrong, the leader, not the group, is blamed, and often is the one that pays for the consequences that their peers have done under their watch. A leader has to multi-task to not only play their role in a group, but also monitor their groupmates’ actions to see if any assistance is needed. The role can be a burden at times, but if a leader truly is dedicated to their job, they do whatever it takes to move their group and themselves forward. This is what we strive as a band to do: move forward. The position as a section leader may seem glamorous, but it takes a lot of time and determination. Leaders not only are responsible for their own efforts, but for each one of their members as well. If one of them acts up or is not giving in the same contribution their peers are, it is the leader’s role

Marching Band Officer Essay I am interested in becoming a Drill Tech Captain or Brass Captain for the 2018-2019 Marching Band season. Ever since I started marching with the Mahwah Marching Thunderbirds, I have found myself amazed and interested in the culmination of expression through music and movement. Never before have I participated in an activity with such structure, passion, pride, and strong relationships between members. As a freshman, I was inspired by professional leaders of the band and how they were not only dignified while on the field, but enthusiastic and welcoming as well. I would love to be a leader in Marching Band so that I may positively contribute to the transference of the marching band drill and music from paper…

Throughout history the National Honor Society has become synonymous with the best of the best. A school club that has built a legacy on students who exemplify the ideals of leadership, service, character, and citizenship. To even be considered for a group of this nature would be an honor within itself. Leadership is simply defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization however, I believe leadership to be much more than simply being in charge. True leadership is simply more than being bossy and I have learned this through my experiences within boy scouts.…

My fellow officers and myself worked together to plan an exciting night to educate members of Section 20 about opportunities as well as teach leadership skills. I had the privilege to be the leader in my workshop where members participated in an activity which taught the participants the importance of communication and how to cope with obstacles that can arrive in FFA, school, and life. From holding these positions, I have also assisted at the State Fair by walking in the parade with other members as well as assist in running the FFA barnyard. These allowed me to discuss and inform children and adults about the agriculture industry and FFA. I have gained amazing experiences throughout the FFA…

If I were to be a section leader, I would be able to take on a challenge that few are willing to take on and be able to see the outcome of my leadership and how it affects the ensemble, which would be fulfilling. I would also be able to have the satisfaction of helping my section mates become the best marchers and people they can be in all ways I can. Best of all, I would be able to be someone people can easily approach with no judgement, which I feel everyone needs. Overall, being a section leader to me would be the most satisfying and enriching way for someone to be able to help the Marching Pioneers become better than…

The band as a whole is looking up you and see you as a leader, which means you need to become that responsible and reliable role model needed. I feel like I have already possessed these traits and would excel in this area. As an older sister and aunt, I have experience in having to be a role model for others. In the past, I have had to take in consideration of how I make decisions and how they would affect those in my family that are younger than me. For example, I am one role model that my little brother has to look up to as an example.…

Leadership doesn’t necessarily have to be grandiose or significantly impactful. It can be displayed more casually or in a school environment like in my US History class. My table was often rowdy, which can be a problem when there was group work to complete. As a result, I constantly found myself assigning tasks to different people and managing their progress. One of the tasks of a leader is to make sure everyone does their part to achieve the end goal.…

My heart is beating quickly, my mouth is dry, and as I look at the familiar faces in front of me, their judging eyes make them seem like strangers. I struggle to get them to quiet down and we begin our hour long sectional, which I have to lead. It was the first day of my third year in marching band and at the end of last year, with the graduation of the previous section leader, I was granted his important position. Being a competitive person, I was extremely self conscience of how my section made me look. I hated being blamed for their errors and was exceedingly harsh towards them during sectionals.…

This was both a setback and an opportunity. We were losing our section due to the poor section leaders we had. We were becoming split amongst each other as we had no one to bind us together. That is when I saw the opportunity to take back the section and build up unity and trust within each other once again. I had to step up when no one else would and demonstrate leadership to the members of my section.…
