What I Learned In College

Reflecting back to how I was when I first arrive at the University of Central Florida I could say that I have grown a lot both academically and overall as a college student. Now that I have passed more than half of the semester I have gained confidence with what I’m doing and I think I got the hang of it. I could say that in general I am very satisfied with how I’m doing academically, I am doing well in both of my courses. Another thing that I could say is that not only have I already taken away a lot from UCF but the book “The Other Wes Moore” by Wes Moore that was assigned for us to read has taught me a lot. I also am on track with the goals that I’ve set for myself this semester and I expect to meet them.
As of right now I could say that I am pretty satisfied with my overall academic progress so far in the semester. Although I am satisfied it does not me that I cannot improve, I strive to do the best that I can and that is what I will do. I plan on studying more and harder when it comes to exam so I can score much higher on them. I also plan on organizing myself more and as well find a better way of writing

For example a short term of goal of mine is to pass this semester and the soar program. As of know I could say that I am on the right track to meet these goal because I am doing well academically in both of my classes, I am also coping well with the college transition, and I have perfect attendance. If I continue doing what I’m doing right now I believe that I will succeed to reach my short term goals. On the other hand my long term goal won’t be so easy to reach but my plan is to just pass the finish line at the end of my four or five years of college with a degree. As long as I keep on working hard like I’m doing now this summer term to pass my classes and as well keeping my head up no matter how hard things may seem I think I’ll be able to reach that

These can be reached within days, weeks or months. Ultimate goals can take months or years to complete, these are considered long term goals. Following step by step the process will support reaching short-term goals eventually aiding in achieving those long-term goals. Understanding that the way students learned in high school will not cut it in college because there is a higher expectation. The advice I would give to a prospective student starting in college is the information given to us in the beginning of chapter zero (0). First, determine which study methods works best for the individual (verbal, visual, auditory, and/or action). Secondly, time management by balancing school, work and play, and avoid procrastination at all cost. Thirdly, you need to be prepared for class, meaning read the textbook and take notes that you are able to understand.…

There are so many dimensions to counseling; guiding students with their academic path, creating an environment where they feel safe and supported, being a counselor and identifying risk factors. Beyond these dimensions however I believe the two most important characteristic when defining a counselor are adaptability and resilience. Academic counselors come across diverse populations and I believe there is no standard process when guiding students. The counselor should actively listen to the student and build a professional relationship in order to build trust. Equally important is the ability of the counselor to be resilient and to teach resilience.…

In high school, I took advantage of AP and honors classes to prepare myself for college because I knew then that college was the key for a better future. I know that I do not want to work a minimum wage job for the rest of my life as my father does, which is precisely why my parents have always encouraged me to do well in my studies. Although school was difficult in terms of time management, learning and applying what I know, and studying, it was all worth the stress and sacrifices because I’ve earned college credit, in turn saving me money. Through challenging myself in these classes, I’ve learned important lessons such as that learning from my mistakes and that success comes from failure.…
