• I primarily chose medical based programs because I want to be in the medical field and I feel that these programs will help me on my quest to that. I want to one day change the mental health system, not only in Cameroon but other parts of the world as well. Even though these programs are not purely psychology based, I feel that I will acquire a multitude of new skills. The programs will give me the experience that I could never receive in a normal high school classroom. It will also give me a chance to explore how college classes operate and also get an early introduction into the life of a college student.

This greatly change our family dynamic because my responsibilities increased dramatically. It was very hard to see the mother I looked up to in such a dismal state. I became cook, cleaner and care taker of a 2 year old while my father was at work. This taught me to never take things for granted and to live my best life in every way possible. The responsibilities I gained helped me in other aspects of life, such as in school.
3. If you could change one thing about your community, what would it be and why?
In my high school, I am one of 3 African American students who participate in honors or advanced placement courses. Although the numbers are increasing now, I feel that there needs to be a way to increase the amount of students who are interested in being in a higher education classroom. Some feel that they are not smart enough to take part in the coursework but there is nothing in our school that explains to them that there is a way for them to achieve. We do have counselors but they cannot meet with every student to explain.

My siblings and I were sometimes forced to walk for miles to get water from the closest house with a running tap. We then walked back, my older brother and sister with twenty liters on their heads, and six year old me doing my best to carry one recycled milk gallon. Every morning we got up with the hope that the sun would break through the clouds for laundry day. We washed with hopes that no rain would hinder the drying process. Slowly, we scrubbed all clothes individually and with great care. By the end of the ordeal, our hands were shriveled from the water and chemicals of the soap. We then went farming to harvest what we could eat for dinner that day while the rest was sold to pay for electrical bills, but sadly even when bills are paid electricity was cut off at the most inopportune times. This confined us to the home with nothing but family to keep us company. Many parents are forced to work for what little money they could get to pay for their child 's schooling and many were not able to meet that standard I have family members forced to leave school because of lack of funds.
