Having the ability to gauge an athletes attitude regarding the use of drugs and steroid is a powerful tool towards developing prevention programming. In theory, sport psychology could use this tool to establish real measures regarding the attitudes of the athlete which become the basis for incorporate programming that minimizes the likelihood of steroid and drug use. There exists a great deal of research information on the subject of doping in sports. One can look back in time to the early Olympics and find signs of doping in sports. It appears since the inception of organized sports doping has been a prevalent issue. Many athletes have met their deaths due to doping and many have seen their sports career come to an end as a result of doping. It is the most news reported issue in sports today. In recent years professional athletes have begun to make millions of dollars based on their sports performance. This has placed a greater spotlight on their personal lives and how they live outside of their performance in sports. It seems performance altering drugs have become the means to enhance one’s performance and to become dominant in one's sports
