Within our current culture today youth sexting has become quite a common activity, having up to 1/3rd of today’s youth participating in it (Strohmaier et al. 2014). This section will examine how exactly this activity is being performed by our young adults. Sexting behaviours is identified in one of the research studies as any behaviours that include sending someone via mobile phone: sexually explicit worded message, sexually explicit videos or photos (anything showing: genitals, breasts, bottoms or anything considered erotic), naked, semi-naked photographs or sender wearing linger/underwear (Yoshihara, …show more content…
One study looks at the role of alcohol with sexting (Dir, Cyders, & Coskunpinar, 2013). It highlights the role of sexting in the sequential connection among alcohol and sexual hook-ups (Dir etal., 2013). Sexting with young adults plays important roles as a mediator between alcohol abuse and having casual sexual interactions (Dir etal., 2013). It makes a lot of sense that three very poplar deviant acts among young adults would correlate (alcohol abuse, hooking up & Sexting). It comes as no surprise that these other factors are a large part of the sexting experience. A last study notes the prominence of lying while sexting (Drouin, Tobin, & Wygant, 2014). It states that half of all active sexters (anyone who has ever sent a sexual text) had lied to their partner about what they were doing, wearing or both (Drouin et al., 2014). It found that women were more likely to lie then men when sexting (45% of women & 24% of men), but they are more likely to lie in face-to-face sexual interactions as well (Drouin et al., 2014). These finding propose that deception in activities has now made its way into remote sexual communications (Drouin et al., 2014). When pretending to be excited aroused or programs are a normalcy in fact-to-face interactions, it is anticipated that the youth are pretending in remote messaging now too (Drouin et al.,
