This critical skill enables a strategic leader to evaluate not just the first order of effects of recommended actions but also ties those actions to strategic end states. Advice at the strategic level will often be provided with limited information, and under significant time pressures. Strengthening my ability to quickly evaluate a situation, identify the critical facts, and provide context to the information available will allow me to not only understand the consequences of the advice provided but also its impact on the strategic environment. Specifically, they must strengthen as a Strategic Advisor and Communicator by honing their cultural awareness skills and ability to understand the implications of the advice they offer at the strategic level. Additionally, a leader must evolve their Senior Leader at the Strategic Level abilities by providing strategic vision, teaching and mentoring others in accordance with established doctrine, and learning how to bear the responsibility for the risk associated in allowing some tasks or mission sets to atrophy. Examining one’s attributes and skills with regard to operating as a strategic leader is no easy task but a deliberate evaluation followed by focused development will enable a leader to become an effective senior leader capable of guiding their organizations and the nation towards mission
