Pitman speaks about his experience says, "I run across people who think everybody is messing around and something is wrong if they 're not doing it, too. People get the idea from the media that it 's a normal thing and anyone not doing it is missing out on life 's goodies." People are dissatisfied with their lives because of the portrayal by the media on relationships and through that, they look at adultery to engage their temptations. Based on a study from the online research firm Insight Express with 1,000 adult participants from the ages 25 to 65 years old, 89% believed monogamy is a realistic goal. While, 75% believed the way that young Hollywood stars lived, was a bad example to follow by and a bad influence for the most part. Whereas, 26% had the mentality that television presented committed relationships in "a positive light." This, however, is clearly not true and it shows how convoluted the media has made people in terms of …show more content…
Marriages are more vulnerable since there is more pressures and expectations to find a spouse that provides total fulfillment. Esther Perel, who is a couples and family therapist in New York City says, “We expect one person to give us what an entire community used to -- family life and stability and economic support and be a trusted confidant and passionate lover and experience adventure with the same person.” Generally, this is how infidelity begins. The emptiness or lack of fulfillment leads adulterers to use a variety of means to fill that empty void. Pittman, who has been married for 48 years comments on relationships and says that emotional sharing without your spouse involved can be dangerous because the urgency and need for intimacy is met through someone else and essentially, “pulls you out of your marriage further and further.” Clearly, although there may factors that come into play with infidelity, it is still inexcusable and immoral. Adulterers have the ability and opportunity to handle the issues that are apparent in their relationships but instead choose not

The myth that adultery and having sexual intercourse out of wedlock didn’t exist in history was false because as Coontz explains, many political figures had mistresses and it wasn’t unheard of. In addition, we see that marriages were more stable leading up to, and throughout, the 19th century because the man and woman were seen as one; this is because women were property and men controlled their every move so it was hard to have independence. Today we know that marriages can be more problematic because there is more autonomy and fluidity.…
