There are many different reasons for people to display discriminatory behaviors and those behaviors can affect the life and the wellbeing of others. In life, people have different beliefs and thoughts, so the acts of discrimination can occur anywhere in this society, at work, in school, or even in families in some cases. Education, gender, race, and religion are common reasons for people to discriminate against each other. As a result, these stigmatized behaviors affected the way people behave toward each other which sometimes lead to ignorance and division of social status. In the world, there are many different religions and these religions have abounding moralities for followers to believe. Therefore the acts of discrimination are easy to arise, especially in the U.S ( multicultural country). In the United States, majority of Americans are Christians and they worship Jesus, so any religion that goes against the moral of the Bible, most of the time will be judged or discriminated. For example, in The Color of Water, Ruth McBride confronted the act of discrimination because she’s a Jewish. Out of ignorance her classmates called her “Jesus killer”. Those discriminatory behaviors affect Ruth McBride emotionally in her adolescence. Not only Christian discriminated against other religions, but followers of certain religions also discriminated against other followers of other religions. Relatively is an example from The Color of Water, Ruth McBride’s father. He was prejudiced against virtually anyone that wasn’t Jewish. His discriminatory behaviors became intense that he would not let McBride come to a graduation ceremony because it was held in a Christian’s church.
