SMART Board Technology In The Classroom: Case Study

I am writing to our local school board and administration to consider implementing SMART Board technology usage into the K-8 classroom settings at my local elementary school, St. Mary’s Academy. In the preschool setting I believe this to be a very beneficial tool that could help enhance the learning of students in the classroom. This technology would provide the opportunity for children to learn collaboratively and to use technology to build their skills in language, math, art, and culture. In my classroom I would use the SMART Board to encourage moral and performance character. Moral character is defined as, “qualities such as integrity and respect that are necessary for engaging in successful and ethical relationships with others,” while performance character is defined as, “qualities such as diligence and perseverance that are necessary to achieve excellence in academics, athletics, and other endeavors” (Seider, 2012, p.52). “These methods can cause reduced potential for learning, which can lead to feelings of helplessness, unmotivated students, and less chance of success – especially with disadvantaged students” (Weimer, 2001, p.1). Moral and character development depends on students feeling like they have the resources and teachings available to them so that they can succeed and do well. “Students who use technology tend to improve their performance and problem-solving abilities while increasing their motivation toward reading, writing, and math” (Weimer, 2001, p.1). By incorporating the SMART board technology into the classroom, it could help to reduce the feelings of helplessness and in turn help to benefit students overall performance
