Nursing care models have changed throughout history as new innovations and ideas arose coupled with economic demands on organizations. These changes are on a continuum. Care Models are refined to support or enhance professional nursing practice be more effective. (Finkelman, 02/2011, p. 119). Nursing professionals are leading the charge to make changes crucial in models to provide for increased high quality patient care and outcomes. Implementing patient-family centered healthcare models, utilizing EBP (evidence-based practice) and collaboration with other healthcare disciplines is one way that the nursing profession is accomplishing this. Nurses must continue to lead this charge from here on so that these changes will become the common standards
