Implementing Ebp's Approach

EBP’s offer the ability for nurses to use sound and proven approaches to working with patients. However, for EBP’s to truly be integrated and implemented, they must be systematic in their delivery. Thus, the most useful perspective to use when applying EBP’s is the systems perspective, because this allows an organization to implant standardized approaches which are expected to be used at every level (North, 2012). By default, imposing the systems perspective, when implementing EBP’s, ensures that the organization, unit, and individual, are all covered by the system, which means that EBP’s are then being practiced across the board (North, 2012).
To innovate in this area, EBP’s would need to be delivered through a variety of means. Of course, communication skills would be key, so that the standards, expectations, and ways of doing things could be relayed. Professional development would also play a role, because nurses would need to continue learning and growing to keep up with the newest EBP’s. This form of innovation also ties in closely with continuing education, which nurses would need to do in order to stay knowledgeable in their areas of expertise.

By taking the steps mentioned here, the systems themselves actually define the environment, which ends up leading to a culture which is based upon EBP’s and EBP’s only. This allows nurses to thrive, because they are using sound, safe, and practical approaches, while also cutting out approaches which might be detrimental to patients. Ultimately, this becomes a win-win for nurses, because the use of EBP’s acts to offer a sound and scientific framework, which is then applied across the organization. By using the systems approach and applying the various factors mentioned here, nurses can grow and develop, while simultaneously offering the highest level of care and
