Sample Case Study Anna's Assesment

Introduction In order to create an indivdualized curriculum for the student Anna Smith, an assesment of her progress and development has taken place. The reason assessements, like the ones used fo Anna, take place is so educators know “how well children are learning, if they are making progress and meeting proficiency benchmarks, and if they are being taught effectively” (Gillis, 2010). In the assesment, various milestones and abilities were observed to determine is Anna is on a postive developmental track for for a child of 4-5 years old. Anna is four years old and assements in for form of a developmental checklist, an anecdotal record and a time play rating scale were used in order to determine her progress. The results will lead to a personalized curriculum to help Anna continue to thrive in areas she is profient in, while also encouraging further development in areas that Anna needs improvement on. Assessment Observation On the developmental checklist, Anna seems to be showing strong development in all of the domains. Her motor development is strong with her fine motor skills, but is tlightly lacking in gross motor, as she has not yet reached standing on one foot for longer than 10 seconds. Language and reading are skills that are learned and develop together. When reading with Anna, “But don 't just read the words. Look at the pictures and discuss what 's shown. Again, name everything. If children can 't experience a real item, seeing a picture of it and talking about it is second best. Reading helps children develop the rhythm and structure of language as they learn new words” (Post University, 2012). Not only is this a way to help Anna develop stronger language skills to help her now and in the future, this is another activity that can help promote more independent play for Sara, on a long term
