I implemented this block plan with a 3 year old girl at Lincoln Circle Center for my class EDU 145. I chose the block plan because I believed these activities promoted the child interest and awareness of shapes by providing experiences with matching, grouping and identifying different shapes. It also encouraged her to learning shapes in many ways. Through this plan, I assisted the child in building different shaped tunnels with large blocks and pieces of cardboard. Then asked her to sit or stand on, in, and behind the structure. The child learned to recognize different shapes. This block plan promoted activities that reached her individual learning styles. The skills the child learned included recognizing and being able named five of the shapes (circle, start, heart, square and diamond) Also she learned how to control the small muscles of her

These activities foster the child curiosity, engagement reasoning, and problem solving by providing her with open ended exploration, structured activities and playing. Learning shapes also allowed the child to group or classify items.
The block plan supported me to meet the needs of the intellectual growth in a child development frame work. Besides, it encouraged me to promote children activities exploration base on knowledge of how children develop and learn according to their individual abilities.
This block plan consistently provided me with opportunities to acquire the appropriate developmental activities; it also helped me to better understand the standard #1 “Promoting child
Development and Learning”.
In the future I will use this block plan as a support as well as to understand better the children by respecting and recognizing the strengths and needs of each one of them. I will do this by providing experiences that help them grow as individuals. I also will reflect back on what did work and what did not work. As a consequence, I could make changes for the
