Marjane grew up in a middle to upper class family, so being hungry or cold or dirty wasn't really a problem to her and her family. There was a part of the story when Marjane really realized what was going on with social classes when her maid can’t be with a man that she likes and ends up sad and painfully affected by the social classes. The theme of social classes is connected to my thesis because she uses many graphic images to prove how social classes have affected her (Pgs. 33-37, Satrapi). Marjane had to live through an outbreak of revolution when she was just ten years old due to a corrupt shaw. She even saw the ending to that revolution as well. Marjane used graphic images to show how revolution helped shape her life. This image represents revolution because it is an old piece of propaganda from WW1 that got people to join the war efforts to support their side of the war. This was happening in Iran at the time when there were the people who gave demonstrations/protests to make the government change their minds on the shaw or while Iran is at war with Iraq. This American propaganda shows that there is a change, but “we can do it” as in we can get through this war and change. Propaganda and war have been able to change and shape Marjane’s life to create her personality, mood, and overall view on how the world and the area around a person can change them.In conclusion, Marjane Satrapi’s use of graphic images and other informational uses helped prove her different beliefs and what was happening in her world. The use of graphic images showed imperialism, social classes, and revolution that was occurring during her childhood to change her appearance and outlook on life and other people.
