Everyone has a different idea on how social media impacts our society today and how it has been changing the modern generations of teenagers. We all know that teenagers are not the only ones to use social media websites, but in fact they are the majority of users online today. There are many issues with how social media has evolved and what it is doing to our society as a whole because of the access to nearly everything online. There is nothing private anymore if you are online. Teenagers can post anything negative that they choose, whether it be a status update, a picture, a quote, or even a retweet of what someone else has posted. On a website created by a 19 year old male in college, he gives us an insight on what teenagers really think about different social media websites and what they are really used for. For example, Facebook is considered “an awkward family dinner party you can never leave.” I agree with this statement because Facebook was all fun and games back in middle school, but now the only people who use Facebook are the older individuals in the world, like parents, in-laws, and out-of-state family. Another example of this teenagers writing, is Instagram. He says that Instagram is one of the most popular social media sites there is now. He points out that teenagers like the fact that there are no advertisements or pop-ups on Instagram and they can scroll freely without worrying about clicking something on accident. Also, he says that the content is usually higher quality. What does this mean? Well, to me it means that pictures can show what people mean and you can understand from a glance what is going on and what the caption is about. Plus, pictures aren’t typically blurry and you can use a lot of filters to make a picture look better than it originally was. All in all, this male teenager breaks down each social media website and explains to adults what is really going on here.
