In my text I will focus on the different social classes, the industrial revolution, and women´s issues in the 18th-19th century in England. The movies and novels I will use as to write this essay are Persuasion, Mansfield Park, and David Copperfield.
In the Victorian era Britain was a class-ridden society.
The classes were a part of the British way of life. The British society was divided into three main groups; The upper class, the middle class and the lower or working class. The upper classes were really wealthy, and included some of the oldest families in Britain. This period went from 1837 to 1901. The Victorian era is known for when there where changes where made in the traditional class system of England. For example, the aristocrat class got changed to upper class, and some of the powerful upper middle class categories got their place in the upper class. The lower and working class still remained shut from England´s political processes.
The working class was divided into two categories; the unskilled class and the skilled class. The unskilled class were people who mainly worked as manual labourers. Living in the working class in the Victorian era was also had some positive sides. Children got to go to Sunday school, people were allowed to choose who they married and working class women was healthier that the wealthier women, since they did not have to wear tight corsets. The negative sides were that they had to work for long hours with little breaks.
They earned low, insubstantial wages, and their food was limited and had bad quality. The working class did not have very good living
