The impact of poverty can be felt on facets especially amongst the family at risk. When discussing the impact of poverty on the overall health of the families at risk in general, it is important to consider the impact on three different aspect that is the impact on hunger; the impact on access to access to health care and the undernutrition during pregnancy.
Hunger
In a general term, hunger can be said to be a feeling of discomfort that emanate as a result of the body need for food. Everybody experiences this feeling but however it is more severely felt by some people especially those that live-in penury. Hunger can become severe in some situations that it becomes chronic. A child suffering from hunger may have stunted growth and underweight and are prone to suffer from disease attacks than a child that is well fed.

However, this is a common feeling among the children of risk families. Also, considering the quality of food, the food is usually of poor quality compared to families who are wealthy or at least have the adequate amount of money to cater for the family. The quality of food on the food shelters as well as the lunch (if available to the children of poverty affected families) are often not satisfying or nutritious as the food available to the children that do not live in poverty.
Poverty can be said to put a huge restrain on the ability of families at risk to purchase foods that are nutritionally adequate and this could have an adverse effect on the overall state of the family’s health.
