Prior to the French Revolution, the public was not acknowledged by the monarchy, and was severely neglected. Consequently, Napoleon established reforms in the government that enabled more freedom for the public. Firstly he centralized the government, by establishing this it allotted more freedom for the public to partake in civic life . In addition, Napoleon established religious freedom for the public. Before the French revolution, The Catholic Church had dominated French society and all other religions were looked down upon . This changed when Napoleon became emperor. He was able to reached an agreement with the Pope allowing the Church a major role in French society while providing religious freedom for all others. This also included Freedom for people of Jewish Faith Discrimination against Jews was a serious issue In various parts of Europe, they were been forced to wear arm bands, kept from certain professions, made to live in ghettos, and prevented from attending their synagogues. Napoleon put an end to all of those restrictions, made Jews full citizens of France. Although not all of his decisions are agreed upon, what should be considered at the foremost was his ability to make France flourish as a nation after such a long period of adversity. As Abraham Lincoln once said; “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man 's character, give him power.”When Napoleon was appointed emperor he achieved great success, and reinstated to the world the power of France, which ultimately illustrates the remarkable character napoleon possessed.
