As time flies by, the development of the Internet has increased exponentially, but it is also hurling humanity into an abyss of technological addiction, causing major changes in society. The controversy on this topic is that since the Internet has improved in such drastic rates, does it have a negative or positive impact on human intelligence? The Internet has influenced people in many ways— it has caused various concentration issues, intellectual laziness, and the decrease of sociability levels, all which are deteriorating human intelligence. As there is too much chatting online with Internet-based social media, it leaves little space for real face-to-face conversing. Chatting on Internet-based social media also discards the time that can be utilized to learn useful knowledge. To emphasize, study shows that the majority of smartphone users under the age of 35 check their devices multiple times per day, and mostly without getting an external alert like beeping or vibrations (Rosen). Humans are becoming so attached to their own digital devices, so they are not interacting properly. Too much time spent on the Internet indicates over reliance on the virtual world.
