Impact of Globalization on China
One of the most important issues today is globalization. The improvement of communication and transportation infrastructure has resulted in increased interactions between individuals from different cultures. These interactions have had different effects on different countries depending on exposure and flexibility to change. This paper discusses the impact of globalization on China. It analyses how the different elements and issues related to globalization has affected indigenous Chinese culture, Chinese firms, Chinese farmers and workers. Some see globalization as a god thing while others argue that the sudden increase in the exchange of knowledge, trade and capital around the world, driven by technological innovation has negative impacts on the cultures and communities involved. However, it is undeniable that through globalization, the world has been enriched scientifically and culturally and many people have benefited economically. Today, Chinese people have greater access to ideas and phenomena that were previously inaccessible and this has changed the manner in which the Chinese act, perceive the world and behave. People are becoming more aware of other opportunities and ways of doing things and some have abandoned the original Chinese cultural ways of life (Guthrie, 2012). China, being a collectivist culture, differs significantly with the western individualistic culture. However, through globalization, more Chinese people can now embrace western individualistic cultures and even language.
