Football has managed to deeply weave its way into America's traditions and culture. The sport is practically its own religion. According to the statistics provided by Gallup, although baseball may be referred to as "America's favorite pastime", football fanatics have surpassed the number of baseball fanatics. Football has even invaded some of our holidays such as Thanksgiving and New Years, the NFL practically has its own holiday called Super Bowl Sunday, the most anticipated game, which falls on the first Sunday of every February. Results like this only further proves that football has embedded itself in American culture. Football impacts society greatly. Football has the ability to impact people's health and character. The sport promotes physical fitness through aerobic exercises, which improves cardiovascular health. Other physical benefits include increased strength, muscle, and endurance. Not only does football affect the body, but also the mind; it helps alleviate stress. When engaged in the sport one enjoys, the excitement and ambition that emerge within themselves helps create endorphins, which reduce stress. Football also shapes people’s character and teaches values. Football often teaches good sportsmanship, respect, dedication, integrity, optimism, self-discipline, and not to forget, cohesion. Playing football is an incentive for academic success. Any student involved in a school football team knows they must keep up a certain GPA to continue to play on the team; otherwise, they will be dropped. Also, cognitive skills may be improved through the sport. Good concentration and strategy are needed to be a successful player in football, with playing comes an increase in these skills. These skills aid people in a successful
