The European settlers grew and depended on the Middle Passage and its many ships that carried slaves over from Africa to the Americas. As settlements grew, so did the need for labor on the plantations that supplied the food needed to survive. Settlers and plantation owners had no other decision but to send over slaves from Africa in which they were used to work hard on the plantations. The plantation owners were making more money than they could have possibly imagined, increasing the demand for labor on their plantations to make an even larger profit. Although the European settlers developed the need to use Africans as slaves for their own wants and needs, the Europeans do not understand the pain and sorrow the African slaves must go through in order for them to arrive at their doorstep.
