Immunologist Personal Statement

Great Essays
Since I was young, I always wanted to help others as much as I could. Growing up, I learned that I could achieve my goal through science. There were so many career choices available with science: a marine biologist to an archaeologist, even to a hydrologist. I believed I would find solutions to many of the health problems that humans face; problems in this world such as AIDS, Alzheimer’s, cancer, or diabetes - the list went on. If I didn’t pursue my career as an immunologist, the human race would have been exterminated by a particular strain of the flu known as X-01. In 2022, right after I graduated from college, I was recruited by BioTech Inc., a biopharmaceutical company that is located in Nebraska. I was placed in what was known as “Bio-Tear,” …show more content…
I refilled on sweet tea and proceeded to look outside a window. Boom - I hit the ground; I blacked out. I woke up and my head was heavy. Then I realized that the fatigue had caught up to me. As I lifelessly laid on the floor, I witnessed a black widow spider killing a rat outside. Then it hit me - I got up as quickly as I could and grabbed a container from Carl’s lab. I rushed outside towards the black widow, then I carefully placed it in the jar and covered it. I headed back to the lab with haste and I took the spider out of the container and stabbed it with a knife. I grabbed a syringe and carefully extracted the venom from its …show more content…
I stuck it in the centrifuge and turned it on. When it was done, I pipetted the solution into a petri dish which contained X-01. I set the dish under my microscope to examine the results of the solution - it was a success. I immediately called for the others and told them what I had done. We replicated my test and discovered that it worked 100% of the time. We had to produce a vaccine with this solution with haste. It took 15 minutes to create the first set of Haze. We contacted the CDC and informed them of our procedures. The whole procedure was shared with scientists all over the globe and within a week, the mortality rates of X-01 were down by 90%. Haze was working!
I received a report from Dr. Mindler, a surgical oncologist located in Pennsylvania. She stated that one of her patients was suffering from breast cancer and X-01 two weeks prior. However, when she treated her with Haze, not only did X-01 go away, but her breast cancer started to subside. I contacted the World Health Organization after confirming Dr. Mindler’s research. After about a month of communicating with doctors all around America, it became evident that Haze was fighting all types of cancer with more efficiency than chemotherapy, as well as no negative side

Helping others is rewarding and the process came natural to me. Coupled with my love for the biological sciences, this desire to serve others led me to a career goal: being a doctor. Eventually, I would love to become a neuropsychologist in order to help those with traumatic brain injuries overcome psychological deficits. Although this leadership role dealt with neither neuroscience nor psychology, it set me on the path to finding where my true ambitions…

I was staggering down an alley on a dark, moonlight night, after the first long drink of mine after a length of abstinence. My eyelids were drooping so much my vision was forced to blur from the heaviness of my lids. My eyes were resting on the hammocks below my eyes. I needed to sleep yet my stories they would haunt me each night. I hear the beating heart below my floorboards, the scratching on the walls, and the endless calls of crows outside my vision.…

Immunology Journal Article 2 Answers 1. The phenomenon of clonal selection and expansion occurs when T and B cells are activated by an invading pathogen. The leukocytes that have specific receptors for the pathogen are selected for and begin to divide via mitosis. The large number of cells that result from this expansion all have the same receptor for the pathogen that first activated the cells. Since these cells are specific for that pathogen, they are able to fight off the infection caused by the pathogen more effectively.…

The human immune response is a complex, layered system that uses multiple defense mechanisms which function in harmony to protect the body from infection and illness. There are two main types of immune response, the innate and acquired, and while these responses are related and sometimes overlap, they use separate processes to defend against invaders. Working as a whole, innate and acquired immune responses protect the body from infectious organisms. Infectious organisms that can cause disease include “bacteria, viruses, protozoans, fungi, parasites and prions (infectious proteins)” that are known as pathogens (Goodenough 238). There are three types of protection against pathogens in the human body.…

Helping patients by spending time with them, talking to them, and assisting them broadened my perspective in medicine. I wanted to help patients feel better in a more direct way, with my passion in science. Additionally and unfortunately, at this point of my life, my grandfather was diagnosed with liver cancer. For the first time in my life I felt the indescribable fear and heartache that patients and their families suffer from a disease. I was a student of molecular biology who studied cancer, and a hospital volunteer who helped patients directly, but was left helpless when it came to the medical treatments of cancer.…

After about two minutes of torment I was rushed to the hospital, and fantasized over the emergency vehicle as I was pulled onto a concentrated gurney. As the amiable doctor with swift hands put pins needles in me, I lay there without a salty tear running down my face creating a stream of water. Without a hasty movement I lay there with all of my senses going numb, yet I was alive or at least I think I was. Everyone in the room was appalled and motionless, alive yet not moving watching my every breath.…
