Immigration in the U.S. not only benefits immigrants but native-born americans too. It brings better safety to the citizens, new knowledge and technology, and more innovators and entrepreneurs. According to an article in American Progress, “As immigrants and their descendants integrate into American society, many aspects of their lives improve.”
On the issue of immigrants bringing new safety to the citizens in the towns and communities they live in the issue of crime isn’t as big as it used to be. “After controlling for age, level of unemployment, labor market structure and other factors, the researchers found a reduction of almost five violent crimes per 100,000 residents for every 1 percent increase in the foreign-born population.”(Chiraag …show more content…
Immigrants increase the number of jobs available and produce jobs. In order to increase the amount of jobs there is immigrants often start their own businesses. Through the businesses they start immigrants create jobs and are more highly entrepreneurial than native-born Americans. “When starting their businesses they provide jobs for Americans and fill gaps in the low and high ends of labor markets.” Immigrants are able to work in the low and high ends of labor markets because they have specialized skills and are far more entrepreneurial that allow them to enter underserved markets. The simple fact that immigrants come from countries where they do things differently, gives America a chance to advance themselves. “Interacting with two or more cultural contexts can help immigrants combine diverse ideas, solutions, and customer problems in order to create something entirely new.” Coming from all around the world to America immigrants encounter new services, products, communication strategies, and customer preferences. “Living in different cultures allows the transfer of knowledge about customer problems or solutions from one country to another.” Even with the huge population in America there is a big percentage of the population that is foreign-born. “They represent 27.5% of the countries’ entrepreneurs but only 13% of the population.” Immigrants have a lower rate of welfare wages than native-born Americans do because they focus on becoming entrepreneurs and using their knowledge and skills to make a better life for themselves.
