How Does Immigration Affect The Economy

In America, a country founded by immigrants, immigration has consistently led to the economic strength and cultural diversity that makes America what it is today. Legal immigrants pay taxes, consume goods, and most importantly create entrepreneurial ventures that provide jobs for the countries workforce. While many naysayers will point to the worn out 'more people fighting for the same number of jobs ' argument, this is simply not the case. This argument is invalid in a number of ways which will be explored below. Many modern schools of thought have proven that any tangible detriment that can directly be attributed to immigration is overshadowed by overwhelming evidence in the opposite direction. Much of the industry that comprises our economy today can be traced back to an individual that is a decedent of immigrants to America in the least. While there are countless of individual examples of immigrants benefiting the American workforce economy over the years, economist Adam Smith sums the reason behind this fact better than most: “the secret of economic growth is specialization.” citation An economy in which citizens are forced to grow their own vegetables, build their own goods and repair or maintain their possessions doesn 't incubate productivity in the way that specialization does. Many of the jobs held by even illegal immigrants are not desirable to the average American worker. By having an immigrant workforce available to fill the gaps in our workforce, more jobs and consumers of goods are created. The more people in a workforce that specialize in different jobs, the more productive everyone
