An immigrant is someone who comes lives permanently in another country. For many years, Americans have asked themselves, why do people decide to leave their home country and immigrate to America? Many people have different opinions, but the truth cause for people to immigrate and live the American dream, is because of fear and better opportunities. Many people in the U.S believe the only reason people leave their home country is because they want to live the “America dream”. Most of the times this can be true, but there’s also another cause for these immigrants to leave everything behind and come to a new country. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world their government system is set up the complete opposite as the U.S. For instance, Cuba is a communist country which means that everyone is equal, and no one has more than anyone else. According to Miami Herald, “Twelve Cuban migrants traveling on a small metal boat with a makeshift sail made landfall on Miami Beach Tuesday morning.” (Par.1). Many people leave their home country because the lack of equal opportunities and the government’s control over them, which causes them to come to the “land of the free”. The twelve Cubans who migrated to America told the press the reason they came to America was because they want to work to have a good future and enjoy their freedom (Par. 13). In Cuba the government has control over their salary, how much food they will eat, and also their education. All citizens in Cuba must be equal no matter the situation they are in, which urges people to leave the country and immigrate to America.
