The majority of immigrants who come to America have not even completed high school. As Jencks says, “Mexicans receive public assistance more often partly because they are less skilled than other immigrants and partly because they are concentrated in California, which has relatively generous eligibility standards.” What this means is, California has very lenient laws on immigration and who can receive government benefits. Immigrants purposely come to California because they know that we will let them in. To be blunt, most immigrants take advantage of the U.S. and it’s benefits because they either don’t know how bad the economy is right now or they just don’t care. If immigrants take these jobs, it makes it harder for aspiring workers to gain experience to achieve higher paying occupations. If there wasn't a huge amount of immigrants, this wouldn't be a problem. But with hundreds and thousands of immigrants coming into the U.S. daily, this makes it hard for unexperienced workers to get jobs. Immigrants bring pros and cons which are debatable, but the cons overweigh the pros. Taking in immigrants would be the right thing to do, but it brings to much harm to our economy.
