The Golden Door to America Immigration is what made America into what it is today; in fact without immigration we would not have our country. From the beginning of our grand nation, immigrants have brought new innovative ideas, and new businesses. They built the basic principles of the America we now have today. Therefore, immigrants should still be allowed to come to America. Building walls, forcing people out, not letting in those in need would go against the freedom that America stands for. As the poem of the Statue of Liberty states, “Give me your tired, your poor… your homeless” and she welcomes those people to our country every day. We should not close our golden door that our beloved statue opens to those in need. Immigration has benefited our country in many ways, such as the production of small businesses. 18 percent of all small business owners in America are foreign born owned. In recent studies, since the 1990s crime rates have declined significantly while immigration has increased (Chattanooga). Clearly immigration and crime have no strong correlation with each other. So this leads to the question; Is the worry of immigration about crime and safety of our citizens? Or the racism of those who oppose immigration such as Donald Trump.
