Newcomer center of Peel is a large agency with various departments offering various services for the newcomer in Canada. The department I am at is called Immigrant Settlement and Adaptation Program (ISAP). Including me there are 5 placement students doing their field placement at ISAP. This week we were all asked to organize the Help Yourself Room. Help Yourself Room, is a room that consists of gently used and new items for everyone in the community. In the past, I have organized the Help Yourself Room, because of which I am familiar with the room and know where everything belongs. This week, I had an opportunity to have 4 more people to work with. I personally do not like telling people what to do or how to do something, but at the same time, I get irritated when someone is not doing something the right …show more content…
Therefore, when we were all organizing the room, I was a little hesitant to tell everyone what needs to be done; and if something was not in the right place, I just shifted it myself without telling the person who placed it wrongly. Shifting and moving things continued for about two hours and then I got tired of it, me trying to place the items at their designated spot without telling everyone made organizing a long and difficult process. I noticed not much was getting done; hence, this made me realize that maybe it would be better if I tell everyone what needs to be done and how the staff likes it. After I told everyone what we should do, we all worked as a team and finished everything in 4 hours. I was really proud of everyone, and happy about how efficiently we could all work together. This made me realize that telling someone something you know is basically spreading your knowledge and not bossing

Whether, it is kicking illegal immigrants out of the country or stopping immigrants from entering in the first place, one thing is for sure immigration is the topic of the day. He is considered a criminal in the eyes of the U.S., because he didn’t take the necessary steps it takes to be a legal resident.…

After the 1920’s World War 1 had finally ended and America was starting to return to their normal lives. However, immigrants and African Americans seemed to be a continued problem for America. Economic prosperity failed to prevent social, cultural, and political divisions between the United States. Political cartoons such as “The Menace of Modern Immigration” and “The Teapot Dome Scandal” show political divisions after the 20’s. The Monkey Trial, which also shows a cultural division between the United States that helps support the idea that America, had continuous division problems during the 1920’s after economical prosperity.…

As most advocates and scholars protest, the immigration system is known to be difficult to understand and affects unaccompanied immigrant minors tremendously. There has been support for free legal counsel since the human rights standards have been developed while providing procedural rights for children and refugee alike in certain circumstances (King,2013). I am a prek teacher and with it, I like to do things "my way". I have an assistant and I take in her thoughts and opinions about a certain topic, but I feel I know how each and every child learns so I make her ideas fit their learning style. I like to do things fast-paces and it is difficult at times for my assistant to keep up. After reading about the way I learn and finding out the kind of learner I am, I find it satisfying to know that I might clash with others while finishing a project, assignment, or even just daily planning just by how we learn. Therefore, since I now have a reason for it, I can fix it before it gets out of control.…

My internship with California State Assemblyman David Hadley has catalyzed an important inner-dialogue regarding the hierarchy of my ideals. As an intern, part of my job is to respond to letters about legislation that the office receives from constituents. I generally skim the letters and research relevant information for five minutes before I start writing as the Assemblyman. Every letter begins, “Dear Mr. XX” and ends “Sincerely, Your Assemblyman.” In between those two bookends, I write what seems like overly vague statements from David Hadley’s perspective, creating the illusion that he wrote the response instead of I, an eighteen-year-old high school student.…

Sometimes one of the biggest challenges for individuals in the immigrant community is a lack of awareness of the challenges they face on the part of other immigrants. As a Peruvian citizen from an educated family, and a U.S. green card holder, I have been peripherally aware of differences in the experiences of individuals based on their immigration and socioeconomic status. A recent experience intensified my focus on those differences. It was learning about the life of a boy sitting next to my little brother in our living room one afternoon that inspired me to educate myself, so I would be more aware of the challenges faced by those immigrants who lacked advantages I have.…
