It is very hard for a U.S. Citizen to obtain a work visa in Brazil. In order to work in Brazil a U.S. Citizen will need a residence permit which can be either temporary or permanent and a work visa. Your employer in Brazil will go to the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment and apply for a work permit. Your employer will need to provide the Brazilian Ministry of Labour and Employment with a work contract. If the Ministry accepts your application you will need to then need to apply for a work visa at the Brazilian Embassy or a consulate in the United States.
Beginning the application process for a work visa in Brazil starts with your employer giving the Ministry of Labor Immigration Coordination the proper documents. These documents include a curriculum vitae, certificates, and documents explaining your work and education experience. Your employer will also need to provide them with a valid passport. A curriculum vitae is a summarized version of your education and academic history. It is typically used to for fellowships or a grant. The purpose of the temporary visa is for travelers intending to pursue something related to cultural, business, or education. The purpose of the permanent visa is for people who live outside of Brazil who intend on living in Brazil.
A temporary visa allows for a U.S. Citizen to work in Brazil for 2 years. This visa can be renewed to a 2 year extension. In order to get an extension for your temporary visa you will need to apply for the extension at least one month prior to its expiration. After holding a temporary visa for 4 years a U.S. Citizen can then apply for a permanent visa.
