However, one must consider the role of a student in the academic environment and the principles laid out by school authority. In an academic environment, students hold the responsibility of ensuring their competence in keeping up with the materials taught. Students taking study drugs in order to improve performance is of good intention, but it is still deemed unethical under the formal definition of deontology despite Kant’s argument. This is because the use of study drug is against the values and does not follow the principle laid out by school policies. Taking a look at the athletic profession, the use of foreign substance as a mean to improve performance is of good intention but it is against the values of good sportsmanship and more importantly the rules laid out in competitions [6]. Thus, the use of foreign substance such as steroid is deemed unethical in the athletic profession. One moral compass value that is relevant in this aspect is the negative value cheating. Cheating is defined as the act of violating rules [9] as a mean to benefit off it. The use of performance enhancement drug in sport allow one to have an advantage over others in achieving success. Unfortunately, because of the drugs profound effect, students and professionals make use of the drug as a mean to improve their mental aptitude. These individuals more than likely are not authorized by a professional to use the drugs meaning it is obtained either from illegal means or other “legal” sources such as a friend with such prescription. In accordance to the ethical theory of deontology which outlines that any action that follows the rule(s) or one’s duty is considered ethical action; the action of academic doping is illegal by law. Moreover, the negative values cheating and subversion in the moral compass pertaining to the situation further indicates that academic doping is immoral and unethical. Thus, according to the ethical theory and negative values of the moral compass, the use of study drugs is unethical if the individual use it without any legitimate medical
