speech I was able to jot a little bit because imam could not see women. The speech was about where we will go after we die. He started explaining that when a person wants to change a location or where she lives we consider many things such as how the life is going to be life style the people there the air the weather that is how you make decision you kind of screen everything until you feel comfortable and then you say I want to take next step knowing that the next step will cost you. Unlike the King Fahad Mosque in Los Angeles, the ICNC’s building is very simple. It is not built as a mosque it is just a business building turned into a mosque. So it is much smaller and simple. The crowd also is very small compared to LA mosque. The same taking shoe off rule before entering the prayer area applies in this location. People take their shoes of and clean themselves before the prayer or you can come clean and ready to start the prayer. I went there for Friday prayer. I took my shoes off and put in the cubes located in the entrance. There is not separate praying area for women in ICNC. The imam was in the front, men lined up just in front of the Imam and in the back all the women lined up for the Friday prayer. It was mostly men and fewer women in the room. It started at 1 pm and lasted about ten minutes or so. The imam was wearing a white long sleeve shirt and a big black shawl on top of the white shirt. He had short hair and no beard or mustache. Worshippers were dressed casually and some women were wearing headscarf. I know some location requires women to wear head scarf and women cannot wear pants but this location is more modern and some women were wearing pants with no scarf. I was wearing long black dress and a black scarf. This was not the first time I wear scarf so it did not feel weird. I have lined up with all the other women in the very back. I join them with the prayer. Again, I kind of know how the things are being done therefore it was not too uncomfortable joining the crowd and praying. The whole prayer was in Arabic. After the prayer ended the imam started his preach. The preaching was in English but the imam included Arabic language within his speech. He greeted everyone by saying welcome brothers and sister. He said that there is no god but Allah and the Muhammed is the messenger of Allah. Then he said speak truth all the times be a good Muslim just Allah requests. He said Allah

Eboo Patel tells the story of his journey of finding his identity as an American Muslim and Indian in his book Acts of Faith. However, describing Patel’s conclusive identity necessitates elaborating on the many intimate, pluralistic encounters he immersed himself in throughout his life. Beginning with a base of a somewhat elusive Muslim identity, Patel then discovered Mormonism, Judaism, Catholicism, and social activism, eventually landing back into his familial heritage. Patel’s multiple major epiphanies throughout his young adulthood due to his encounters with girlfriends, literature, organizations, mentors, friends, and travels have all served as great contributions to his United States-Muslim-Indian-pluralist identity.…

Teachers Knowledge and Perceptions of Phonemic Awareness and Phonics Instruction A well-known body of research concluded that the systematic and explicit phonics and phonemic awareness instructions improve early reading and spelling skills and prevent reading difficulties (NRP, 2000; Snow et al., 1998). Therefore, teachers’ knowledge and perceptions of these instructions affect the effectiveness of reading instructions. According to Mather, Bos, and Babur (2001), teachers were not knowledgeable enough about the concepts of English language structure (phonics terminology), even though the teachers had positive perceptions about explicit phonics instructions. For example, only 2% of pre-service and 19% of in-service teachers (293 pre-service and 131 in-service teachers) knew that box has four speech sounds.…

The Deaf event that I attended was a silent dinner held at Starbucks coffee. Before I arrived to the silent dinner, I was not sure what to expect or how much of the conversation I would be able to keep up with. When I was at the silent dinner, I was greeted kindly by those around me, and had the chance to meet many other signers that were a mix of both fellow Liberty students, and other people from the local community. The silent dinner that I attended was different than every other dinner event that I have attended, from the introduction that we made to the conversations and small talk that we shared.…

Susan Colantuono is a leadership experts that focused her speech on why there are many women at the mid management level but very few women at the top management level. She advises there are three elements to leadership and that the first is personal greatness but it is not the most important. The speaker was not very engaging to me but she did have a valid point. Her technique of a flow chart to show women why they haven’t made it to CEO level made me tune out a bit. I selected this speech because it was directed towards women and to make sure they have better success in the business world.…

On Monday, during the third period, I observed a read-aloud lesson. After the teacher wrote the title of the book, she called the students over to the meeting area. Prior to the read aloud, the teacher set strict expectations for the students. For instance, the teacher advised the students that they had to remain seated “Criss-Crossed Applesauce” and raised their hands if they had a question or a comment about the reading. Otherwise, they had to sit calm and quiet.…
