“Imagery is an essential aspect of holistic nursing practice because it brings the nature power of the mind into the process of health and healing”. (Dossey & Keegan, p. 364). Imagery can act as a technique to interact with the image making function in the brain which in turn acts on the entire physiology of the body, promoting wellbeing. Guide imagery becomes a common practice in holistic nursing along with western practice to improve care, health of individuals. A vast range of study has been well documented in the treatment of a wide variety of condition not limited to: cancer, migraines, hypertension, asthma and pain as one of the major issue of those seeking medical help.

Guided imagery is definitely a therapeutic holistic modality that can be practiced to maintain well-being in our today’s society. GI can be self-administered, which means, nurses can use guided imagery to improve self-care and the stress level of the job environment. In guided imagery, the body responds physiologically to the image in the mind as if it were reality ( Naparstek, 1994 ). Although visual images are most often invoked, Achterberg, Dossey, and Kolkmeier (1994 ) recommended that guided imagery should include all of the senses and accommodate individual preferences because a significant number of individuals are unable to successfully visualize images.
