Why is it that one can find a plethora of products under the kitchen sink that have never been touched? Or why do people consider women to having makeup products on hand at all times a normal matter? Well, the answer is quite simple- advertising. Advertising, a prodigious industry in the course of history, is a visual way to market a product or service to the public consumer through TV, internet, billboards, and other outlets. The advertising industry’s image of “normalcy” influences one’s morals and beliefs. Although advertising may lead to personal benefits, this industry’s profit from their image of “normalcy” reveals that advertising negatively impact the population’s morals and beliefs. The idea that the public relies heavily on advertising to shape themselves is proven through reflection on this industry and its effects on women …show more content…
The way that society pushes the concept of normal through advertising proves how humanity looks to the media on how to act, because of how the media pushes their false idea of good onto consumers. To begin, this industry manipulates how individuals view themselves and others on what should be normal. The extent of this outside force upon individuals spreads from coast to coast, day and night, year round. Women, with body image. Teenagers, with fitting in.
