27 October 2014 Illustration Essay Most people think that dance does not use as much physical energy as normal sports and is not governed by a set of specific rules. Also, injuries are less common. Therefore, it should not be considered a sport. Most sports involve some sort of hand and eye coordination, exercise, and a good mental attitude or motivation for what athletes are doing. As a dancer, I danced my entire four years of high school. During my senior year I realized how much dance was underrated. When I would over hear conversations, there would be comments such as “it is not for both boys and girls” or “ it does not create a competitive atmosphere.” I believe that most of these comments came from people who didn’t know much about dance and haven’t noticed how it has changed over time. There are many competitions happening all around the country. According to the International Olympic Committee to be considered for admission to the “Olypic Programme,” a sport must show a direct emphasis on youth and development. Also sports should organize world and continental competitions for the youth and junior age categories as well as for men and women. Some dance competitions start at the age five. I knew a couple of my friends who had been dancing since birth. That was just one of the requirements for the Olympics, which personally dance seems to have met the requirement. Another one that stood out to me was that the admission of a new sport to the Olympic Programme can only be considered if the sport is practiced by both men and women. Therefore there are many male and female dancers. I am not saying that dance should be a Olympic sport, but I think it should at least be qualified as a
