27 February 2017 I believe light is the biggest motif carried out through the play, A Streetcar Named Desire, written by Tennessee Williams. Lighting shows the theme of Illusion vs. Reality along with developing the main character Blanche. Blanche escapes reality by never showing her true self in the light. Blanche is not just hiding from the people and society, but from her own self. She covers up the truth with lies and exaggerations because she does not want to face reality.
