In the front line, there was the piano, guitar, both saxes, and another guitar. In the back line, it was the bass and the drums. Before the performance began the drums changed out the crash cymbal. I wasn’t aware that there were different types of crash cymbals you could use. This band was different from the others because there were both men and woman playing. In the other bands, there were only men. This band was also different from the other jazz concert I attended because they had guitars in this band. The two songs this jazz band played were, “Alter Ego” by James Williams and “Kozo’s Waltz” by Lee Morgan. I liked how during the first song, while someone had a solo, some of the other instruments would lightly play in the background. For example, while one of the men on the guitar had his solo, the saxophones stopped playing but the piano, other guitar, bass, and drums played quietly. During this song, I noticed the eye contact throughout the band members as to who would take the next solo. The form of this song sounded AB. During the next song, everyone began except for the saxophones. The saxophones came in a couple sounds later, which sounded really cool and different. While the drums had his solo, everyone stopped. During this time, one saxophone stepped off to the left and the other stepped off to the right. When the saxophones went back in, they did an interesting stair step noise.
