When Antonio Alarcon was 6 years old his parents left Mexico and came to the United States in search of a better life. At the age of 11 his parents decided to bring him, and since his little brother was too young to make the dangerous border crossing he had to stay in Mexico with his grandparents. When the time to cross the border came Antonio received 1 bottle of water, and a couple of tuna and corn cans. He states that the light of the moon was his only ally. He says that while he was crossing the desert, minutes passed like hours, and hours were eternity, and they didn’t seem to be getting anywhere. The proof of that statement is that they come to this country not knowing the language, many of them not knowing how to read or write, with big limitations for example not knowing how to use a GPS or not having a driving license. Even though, they have all these obstacles they give the best of them to achieve their dreams. Intelligence, and perseverance might describe them, however they get paid with low wages, and even worse the majority if not all do not receive benefits from the companies they work for. Benefits such as health insurance, Long-Term disability Insurance, Pensions, or retirement. Nevertheless, employers, owners of big companies, prefer to hire undocumented immigrants, due to the cheap labor they offer, and to the fact that they don 't have to receive benefits because they are simply not covered by the law.
