Last Tuesday, John Kelly, secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, established new policies for the DHS. These policies included giving immigration officers more powers and speeding up the processes to get illegal aliens deported. With these new outlines, they say that immigrants shouldn’t be afraid. Some immigration rights groups feel this is bad. “Kelly's memos have alarmed immigrant rights groups. They broaden the pool of people who are prioritized for deportation” (Trump administration: We're just enforcing the law of the land, Newsela). Now these changes won’t appear tomorrow. They need money to do this, and they have to hire around 10,000 more Immigration and Customs Enforcement Officers and about 5,000 new Border Patrol agents
