For as long as I can remember I have wanted to do things, that other girls that i knew did not want to do. The first story I remember with a girl who pushed against the mold she was expected to fit was Igraine The Brave by Cornelia Funke. This story had an impact on me because it showed me that a girl can be anyone and anything she wants to be. Igraine wanted to be a knight, I wanted to be a scientist. In igraine’s world, girls are not expected to want to be a knight, in mine girls are expected to not like science or math, at least not as much as I do. When Igraine’s parents accidentally turned themselves into pigs while making her birthday present, a suit of armor, she set out on her own to get what her parents needed to return to their human
