Scientists in the Netherlands have recently identified a single and obscure gene that appears to be linked to how old a person looks. There are people who look much younger than their age just as there are people who also look older than their age as well. Scientists now state that the variation or randomness in genetics is the biggest and strongest role in determining which group a person falls into. The scientists discovered that the gene associated to how old a person looks is known as MC1R. The gene, MC1R, was already known for producing red hair and pale skin but it also turns out that variations in this gene can also cause a person to look either much younger or older than their age. Manfred Kayser from of Erasmus MC University Medical Center Rotterdam in the Netherlands stated that this is the first time a gene has been discovered that can actually explain the mystery behind why some people look older or younger than their age. The human genome has been previously mapped out which shows that it consists of 25,000 genes which in turn are made up of about 3 billion base pairs of DNA. Small changes in the base pairs occur once in every 1,000 letters of the DNA code which produces genetic mutations and genetic diversity. In today’s society technology has allowed even the most obtuse person in the world the opportunity to expand their knowledge through a few clicks of a computer. Technology has truly revolutionized the world of science which can be seen through the multiple advances and discoveries being made by scientists all over the world. Technology is a great asset to those who realize it but there are still many indignant people who blame others for their ignorance but that is far from being a justifiable excuse especially in today’s society where the whole world literally lies in their
