Ignorance Is Ignorance

Ignorance is bliss, many people today use this phrase as a means to vindicate their actions and validate their simple and close-minded way of thinking. Whether you 've heard the phrase used in those exact words or nor does mean that you have never heard it at all. This phrase has been twisted and warped into a series of much smaller and more rationalized forms such as, “he or she doesn 't know any better”, or perhaps, “how was I supposed to know?” or my personal favorite “well everyone else is doing it.” and we say these things as means to justify or excuse our ignorance. The series of phrases in and of their self simply suggests that it is better to have no knowledge of something, then to worry about it, and while the definitions alone seems very elementary, I assure you they are in no way so. Today, we live in a world where we as humans coincide with some of the most exceptional and advanced innovations ever created, and yet, a huge percentage of the population is comprised of those who are intellectually lacking. The reasoning behind this is all but unclear to me, even now, as a young adult I still seem to encounter this phenomenon on a day to day basis, and yet, the severity of others dimwittedness never ceases to amaze me. Is there some kind of pleasure to be found in not making sense? Not to say all ignorance stems from a simple lack of understanding, but rather, and in most cases it roots in the denial of not wanting to accept a situation or fact for what it is. Another key reason that many chose to live this lifestyle is due to a desire to be accepted by society, given that ignorance has become something of a social norm. Many Americans and really just a large percentage of humanity, in general, are under this misconception that it is okay to be ignorant, and more horrifyingly then that is the fact that it has become normal to be
