Ignatius of Loyola

In 1491- St. Ignatius Loyola was born into minor nobility and he was the youngest of 13 children. He loved the idea of courtly love and knighthood
In 1517- Ignatius became a knight in the service of another relative which was Antonio Manrique de Lara. He was a duke of Nájera. Knowing he was interested in courtly love he helped him employe in a military undertakings and put him on a diplomatic mission. In May 1521- He was wounded by a cannonball in battle against the french. He wounded his left and right leg. While wounded he had a conversion and started reading books about different saints and Jesus. After the conversion he wanted to do great things and do what God wanted him to do with his life.

March 24- He spent his time in prayer.
On March 25th 1522- He lived as a beggar. While a beggar he ate and drank sparingly. He scourged himself and for a while he did not combe or even trimmed his hair. Daily he attended mass and spent seven hours in prayer and he often did this in a cave outside Manresa.At Manresa, he sketched the fundamentals of his little book The Spiritual Exercises.
In 1523- Ignatius left Barcelona and traveled to Rome, Venice, and Cyprus.
In March 1524- He passed through cyprus venice and then reached his destination which was Barcelona. He studied here for 2 years.
In 1526- He transferred to Alcala. He had many followers and was then people had suspicions of heresy so he was soon tried. He was proved innocent and then left for salamanca. There he was imprisoned with his followers. He was proven innocent yet again but was not allowed to preach again until he was finished with his studies and left for spain without any of his followers.
In February 1528- He remained a student till 1535.
