Leadership Reflection

I have choose the book “If you give a Moose a Muffin” by Laura Numeroff. The story talks about a moose. A child gives a muffin to the moose. The moose requests to have some jelly to eat the muffin. Than the moose requested more muffins. Then the moose ask for something else and something else until he sees blackberries and that remains him that he likes jelly which would remain him that he wants another muffin. Overall the story repeats again and again.
This book applies to me this semester in a lot of ways. I am the moose this semester I’m focus on getting good grades just like the moose is focus on the muffin.I have my goals just like the moose has his goal. However sometimes I start to procrastinate by deviating from my goals just like the moose deviated from the muffin to other things that in reality he didn't really need. Even when the moose has a goal of eating muffin he sets his goal to a side and focuses on other things that are not important. An example of the book on how he focuses on things that are not as important as the muffin is in the story when it says “when he puts the sweater on he'll notice one of the buttons is loose he'll ask for a needle and thread he'll start sewing the button will remind him of the puppets his grandmother used to…” sometimes at school we are doing

The moose does all his actions based on the results of previous actions. For example “he'll use the sheet to clean up the mess then I'll ask for some soap to wash it out he'll probably want to hang the sheets up to dry he'll go outside to put it on the clothesline…” which mean that the moose did all that based on the result of past actions. This relates to school because most of the times we do our homework based on results of past actions such as having a bad grade in a class would let us to trying harder in obtaining a better

I have also gained leadership inside of my bank class, in bank we are instructed to be trustworthy and help our customers to the best of our ability. Another place that I have showed leadership is when I have guided some of the students in my English class how to write an analysis essay over the books that they had chose. I carefully instructed them of how a hook should be used stating that they should avoid using a question to gain the reader's attention because we have been using that tip since we have begun learning how to write essays. I advised them that they must use a new tool to fully gain and increase their knowledge of something they had not used. I have taught them with a good hook and thesis the reader will be more than ecstatic to read their essay and with that you will make an amazing…

When Saul is playing for the Moose, he enjoys his experience playing hockey, as he connects with the team as a whole. Saul is able to handle the abuse that he encounters on the Moose because of the tight relationship he has with his teammates; they are all supportive of each other, and their community overrides any verbal or physical abuse they experience on the ice. The Moose accept Saul almost immediately after Fred Kelly invites him to play. At first however, the Moose are skeptical of Saul because of his size and weight.…

Leadership on the line by Ronald A. Heifetz and Marty Linksys is a very timely book. Maggie’s description of her Indian community and the effects of alcohol made me think of many urban communities and the pain that lurks in those communities. The stories she shares about Lois and the heart she had for her community and desire to make it better make you think we need more leaders like that. Lois leadership inspired me because she saw something wrong in her community she believed she could bring change. Lois is a good picture of servanthood she doesn’t sit and think someone should so something…

The main idea of the book I choose the book “Act like a leader, think like a leader, by Herminia Ibarra, which is inspirational read for everyone who has a passion for leading. Ibarra, redefines the traditional leadership notion of “think first, and then act’’ by acting first and then thinking. She described The “Outsight Principle” which is the mine idea of this book. Through the implementation of the “outsight principle”, Ibarra believes that one can improve or develop into an effective leader. This principle attests that the only way to think like a leader is to first act it out and that is to come out of ones’ comfort zone by start doing changes and more experiences.…

This chapter did an excellent job of covering the difference between a leader and a manager, in addition to how the skills could be used together. Reflecting back to the prompt of when I was a manager with an abundance amount of work, I began evaluating what characteristics I demonstrated in the situation. I wanted to know if any of those characteristics had a positive or negative effect over my team. Also, what type of leadership style did I use and was it effective. For the most part I did demonstrate many positive characteristics such as adaptability and cooperativeness, but initially I lacked in areas like providing a clear vision.…

Leadership is both a science and an art. Good leadership requires an accurate sense of self, a well-communicated vision, the ability to earn the trust of others and the capability to take effective action. In order to “build your house of leadership” your actions must inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more. (Duren, Lec. 2). Throughout the semester, I have learned that some of the five Kouzes and Posner leadership practices in The Leadership Challenge come naturally to me while others do not.…

Leaders have to be able to create a vision and lead their team in achieving that vision. Our activity was to create a plan to solve unsafe working conditions in third-world countries. Our team consisted of two students from UT-Austin and one international student from Mexico. Through this exercise, I learned leaders need to know when to adjust their message to their target audience. As I was expressing my ideas to the team, I was rushing through my speaking and ignoring the needs of my team members.…
