If She Only Knew Me Analysis

This was a very inspiring chapter. The compare and contrast assignment with magazines you did with your class had me thinking about how I can’t wait to teach. I remember when I was in school those types of magazines were very popular, especially Word Up! So reading the story about Brandy was nostalgic as well as inspiring to me. I also really enjoyed the videos about the two young students. As I was watching If She Only Knew Me video I was pridefully thinking I wouldn’t do that, I would’ve assume that, and etc. Then the part came up when he stated “If She Only Knew… That I need to talk if I’m going to learn, she wouldn’t send me to the principal’s office so much.” This was an Aha moment for me. This part impacted me because I could see myself disciplining a …show more content…
I have an idea in my mind what a caring teacher supposed to look like when it comes down to meeting a student’s emotional needs. However, I’m not really all that affectionate and I’m awkward when it comes to hugging, even when that’s what a student may need at the moment. So most of my caring in this way will be ethical I believe. It was interesting to see that the Mr. Barkerson example was acceptable. I understand it, and I feel the no non- sense, stern, we have no time to waste, slamming the door way can be very effective. But I believe there’s a way I may be perceived as a black man versus a woman teacher speaking to their class in this matter. A Mrs. A might be perceived as motherly by outsiders, but a Mr. A might be perceived as an angry black man yelling at those poor children. This also is the same I believe when it comes to showing affection towards children. It seems “normal” for a woman teacher to show affection but, it might seem a little suspect for a male teacher to show the same affection. Maybe this is covered later, but I wonder is there a way to be authentic in your discipline and affectionate style without mainly coming across the wrong

How can one you teach someone to be a man when you aren’t one yourself? For instance, in Ernest Gaines’ A Lesson Before Dying, Grant Wiggins, black school teacher, acquires criticism for being ‘passive’. Meeting with the white superintendent, Dr, Joseph, Grant receives complaints, disapproval, and insults of Grant’s students, and even his name. Passively acting, like no true man would, Grant restrains from correcting another because he is scared of the consequences, he doesn’t tell the superintendent what is too much, and he surrenders after requesting for something he wants only once, and avoids demanding for something. You simply cannot call him anything but passive, a real man should not act passively.…

My teachers are Mrs. Archabal and Mrs.Wheeler, two of the best teachers in the school that are credible. We call Mrs. Archabal “Arch” and we call Mrs. Wheeler “Wheels”, they don’t mind because mostly everyone at Thayer calls them by their nickname. So, on Friday, we had English class second period…

Health Science 541 is one of the very first semester classes I have taken in the master's program for public health in Applied Epidemiology at California. It is a required core class that needs to be filled for students to review their diploma. It covers the topics:,. What I learned was the importance of that when you get into the workforce whether it is in a clinic, nonprofit or in a hospital setting, you bring more than just one experience, and you do not just do one job. For me something was learned in each chapter that will be tangible for students to take to utilize in the professional workplace.…

Assessing Motivation: When I wanted to find out what kind of topics Izzy would be interested in, I conducted the “Tell Me What You Like” assessment from Assessment for Reading Instruction by McKenna and Stahl (2015. Through this, I learned that Izzy is interested in animals, magic, jokes, camping, drawing/painting, horses, detectives, love, famous scientists, food, cooking, etc. Izzy’s variety of interests helps give me many options when choosing what kinds of books to use in my study. In using this information, Izzy will be more likely to feel motivated. To find out which settings Izzy likes to read in, I conducted the “Elementary Reading Attitude Survey”, by McKenna and Stahl (2015).…

I agree with all of Burroway’s ideas, but that is partly because I had already learned most of them from past classes. I already knew the three main types of dialogue (summary, indirect, and direct) and I’ve always thought they were helpful for me. In fact, one of my assignments required me to write a scene containing nothing but dialogue, and this scene also had to include all three types. That assignment was great practice for writing dialogue that served multiple purposes, and I’m happy to share my submission for it if you would like me to.…

Class #3 Readings: http://www.cns.nyu.edu/home/ledoux/overview.htm Emotion, Memory and the Brain, Trauma and PTSD Symptoms: Does Spiritual Struggle Mediate the Link? I especially enjoyed the exploration of brain activity and the effect the trauma can have on the brain this week. I think that the way the slides were organized were a great way to gradually expand on knowledge introduced in the readings, and slowly but surely increase the complexity of the ideas. While I am attempting to critically analyze the class, I really do think that the slides and concepts were laid out perfectly and connected well to the course content. The fact that each slide built another layer of information onto the main topic without making things to complex was easy to understand and therefor easy to learn.…

This week was a challenge for me. Being halfway through the semester now, I am really starting to feel the pressure of online classes. I kind of felt that this week was way like the first two weeks to me. Things happened so fast and bounced all around that I struggled to grasp the information and had to reread pages at a time to kind of understand the material. I tried to do some things different what seemed to help me a lot through this.…

Track 2 (“Baby Be Mine”): This song starts with percussion and synthesizer sound effects. The lyrics begin at 0:20. I noticed that the percussion highlighted the second and fourth beats of the measure. The song was a legato sounding pop song that sounded like some of the songs on the top 40 radio stations. Background singers entered at about 0:58; they shocked me because I did not expect something like that in this song.…

Having the video from the history channel ready to show students helped give those students who weren’t familiar with The Great Depression some background knowledge. Introducing Padlet to students was fun and students seemed very intrigued by using this website, I did forget to let them know before posting they will be able to see everyone else’s post. When this first happened students raised their hands and weren’t sure what was happening, which then lead me to tell everyone that this was okay and we could see what everyone else was posting.…
