When I was younger I never understood this story of the money changers very well. I just knew Jesus had a whip, turned over tables, and was furious. This chapter revealed a deeper revelation from the text. Jack said, “he raged because the nations were being kept from His house because of the greed of those who dwelt there” (70). How often are we keeping people away from God’s house of prayer? At one point in my Christian walk I was a pharisee. I invited people, but I discriminated towards certain people I would invite. Through maturity I realized even the least of people need God. Usually, it is the least or lower class people who follow Christ. Matthew 5:3 became a real revelation to me; the poor in spirit are blessed. During my immature days I would try to go for the leaders or popular people, this would work sometimes. On the other hand, my friend will invite anyone, it was usually not the popular kids in high school. Sometimes they would come sometimes they would not. My point is I was the thieves in the temple, while my friend was representing Jesus and the true church. I did repent once I knew what evil I was committing. My friend said, “everyone should be able to come to a good place to experience
