If I Were Marjane Analysis

Decent Essays
After hearing the announcement that Iraq has begun to invade Iran, Marjane reacted pretty serious and mad about it. This could be proven by the fact that right after Marjane’s grandma’s news, on page 79 last panel, Marjane said that “my blood was boiling. I was ready to to defend my country against these Arabs who kept attacking us.” However, If I were Marjane, a 10 or 11 year-old, I don’t think I would react the same way as her because even if I know what’s going on in the country at that young age, I still don’t think I would be as brave as Marjane. In the last frame of the chapter, she dressed up formally with a button down shirt and an army hat. The significance of her dressing that way is that she looks like she’s ready to serve her country

The Seamstress by Anna Blunden and Kiss Me and You’ll Kill the Lasses by Lilly Martin Spencer are both images of women, produced by women who have extremely different backgrounds. The two pieces work together to show that even though these women can live similar lives, they have extremely different feeling toward their situations. With one woman more than happy tending to the family, and one doing everything in her power to leave, they show just how different life can be based on your perspective. One of the most obvious similarities between these two pieces are the subject matter.…

The “Eat me/drink me” scene has become very iconic in pop culture. But for something so heavily associated with childhood, there is a deceptively dark current running through it. In the novel, Alice is very much playing at being an adult, although the reader knows that she thinks very much like a child. Carroll’s use of understatement makes this obvious to the reader. Phrases such as, “if you cut your finger very deeply with a knife, it usually bleeds,” and “if you drink much from a bottle marked “poison,” it is almost certain to disagree with you, sooner or later,” hint to the reader that Alice has a concept of consequences but may not be able to foresee them accurately (Carroll 10).…

Continuing, “If I Were The Devil” was one of the chapters that hit home in my heart. It really revealed to me how serious I take missions, and awaken a deeper understanding of God’s heart for His mission. This chapter specifically showed me the devil’s tactics, to stop me from following through with God’s command. One area of awakening I needed was to take missions out of the margins of life. For some reason I noticed myself drift away from missional living.…
