One of the most important traits that Marvin has been characterized with is extreme curiosity. As he travels through the colonies living space, his eyes are constantly moving, and he is filled with the urge to stop at every new place he sees. This trait is continually shown as he sees the “Outside.” His curiosity makes him a willing learner, which is what the experience was all about. Another trait that Marvin is characterized with is his that he is very observant. On his journey with his father every detail in the scenery around him is noticed and mentally recorded. This trait gives the character insight in to the mind of Marvin.
6. The setting in “If I Forget Thee O Earth,” continually changes. The characters are originally placed in the colonies indoor community. This setting allowed readers to have some sort of insight into the life that Marvin was accustomed to. From there the setting changes to the inside of the surface vehicle. However, the focus is more on what’s is seen outside of the vehicle. The outside setting changes as the vehicle moves closer the destination. It goes from deep valleys to flat terrains. And the final choice of setting is shown when they reach their destination, the sight of the glaring
