Ienaga's First Lawsuit

Ienaga lodged his first lawsuit (Daiichiji soshō 第一次訴訟) (out of three) against the national government on June 12th, 1965 at the Tokyo District Court, with the first hearing being held on the 21st July. It was a compensatory damage claim suit, i.e. Ienaga had claimed it violated the rights given to him by the Constitution (emphasis on Article 23 that guarantees academic freedom) and that the textbook screening was illegal and contrary to Fundamental Law of Education and as such was improperly applied to his manuscript, all for which he demanded financial compensation for psychological duress. (Nozaki, 2008, p. 37) He had also contemplated arguing the point of historical knowledge, ultimately deciding against it, but that argument cropped up
