If a gear part brakes or wears out; it can be scanned with the help of Kinect camera. With the help of computer software, its 3D mesh will be generated and it can be sent to a 3D printer which will print the desired part. By using this technique, one can manufacture a part immediately. This can save a lot of time and cost compared to traditional manufacturing.

2) Medical application of 3D scanning: Kinect can be used to model hearing aids. Scanning of ear of an individual can be done using Kinect and with the help of computer software and 3D printer; hearing aids can be manufactured.

Orthopedic cast: Scanning of a fractured limb can be done with the help of Kinect and results can be used to design a cast.

3) Kinect can be used in physiotherapy to instruct patients regarding the exercises. It can provide instant feedback to therapist and patients. The Kinect camera can track whole body movement, hence it becomes difficult for the patient to cheat. There is no need to attach any devices to the

In the Augmented Perception for Upper-Limb Rehabilitation study experimenters were looking at different hand postures and movements used in everyday skills. This was evaluated through identifying different motions of the arms, elbows, wrist, and fingers, and imitating these motions. With respect to identifying the motion, the participant either with or without a headset on, heard a beep, saw two stick figure arms, then saw either the left or right arm move and perform 1 of 4 actions (wiggle, point, fist, or elbow). The independent variables in this case were the 4 motions performed, either with or without the virtual reality headset on, and which limb moved. The dependent variable in this experiment was the reaction time, taken from the moment…

In manufacturing, there is an approach called the Computer-integrated Manufacturing process which involves the use of computers to control the production process. This process involves examining and identifying problems in the components of equipment, managing equipment performance and schedule, equipment tools and devices as well as measurement. To achieve augmented reality aided manufacturing and also ensure effectiveness and productivity, some key processes will have to be followed through, and they include: the augmented reality aided robot control which makes good use of hardware and software tools to produce an amalgamation of a physical event and an augmented event comprising of a 3D virtual representation of a thing or situation.
